Interior Design Trends to Watch Out for This Year by Rock Robins
It has always been said that the only thing that doesn’t change in this
world is change itself. The same is true for the interior design industry.
What’s trending right now could be what’s leaving tomorrow. With changing
seasons come rapidly evolving trends on how to decorate the modern home. Here’s
a look at what are predicted to be the hottest trends in interior design this
year:
Goodbye chrome. Hello brass and gold!
Metallic accents are set to replace chrome in furniture, furnishings and
fixtures. Preferred are brass, gold, matte black and metallic finishes for
their organic and elegant quality. These fittings can add flair and luxury to
any room. Brass and gold look especially well against emerald green and light
pink. In the kitchen and bathroom, gold can further be accentuated with white,
black and marble-inspired backdrops.
Turn to the dark side.
Wooden furniture is still in this year but is
expected to stray away from the pale and bleached textures and lean toward
darker hues. Retro furniture in darker shades such as walnut brown is made
timeless and fit perfectly in a contemporary setting. When coupled with
metallic accents, dark-toned furniture adds richness and elegance to a modern
home. It is suitable for the living room and bedroom, in which it helps exude a
warm and inviting ambiance
Around the World
In recent years, travel has become a lifestyle for many. Backpackers and
globetrotters are numerous and literally scattered all around the world. In the
world of interior design, travel- or globe-inspired artisanal products are in
fashion. Consumer behaviour also points to rare finds and one-off pieces
exclusively from certain countries and cities instead of mass-produced items
from a single and nearby location. Expect earth tones and loud patterns on
furnishings, especially come spring and summer.
In Print
Speaking of patterns, tropical and nature-themed prints are also in this
year. Leaf-, safari-, wildlife- and insect-print wallpapers are one of the
biggest trends today in wallpapers, fabrics, beddings and other furnishings.
Green is in demand, not only because of its vibrant color, but more because of
its ability to uplift the mood and refresh the body. The shade looks good
against dark furniture and walls.
